Comcast has operated two transactional services since acquiring Vudu.com/start from Walmart last year. Rebranded store will remain Roku’s official transactional outlet.

Comcast’s Fandango unit has combined its two transactional services, FandangoNow and Vudu, and will now operate one rental/sale platform under the “Vudu” moniker. 

The Vudu rebrand will extend to the official movie and TV show rental store on Roku, which previously carried the Fandango moniker. 

“At Fandango, we’ve been building a digital network that super-serves tens of millions of fans across the entire entertainment lifecycle, from movie and TV discovery with Rotten Tomatoes, to our three theatrical ticketing apps and now an even larger scale Vudu on-demand streaming destination,” said Fandango President Paul Yanover, in a statement. “During a time where consumers have a myriad of viewing options, we’re proud to deliver a service that presents an unparalleled library of content, many titles that are not available on subscription services, and the flexibility to pay as you go.”

Added Tedd Cittadine, VP of content partnerships for Roku: ”Consumer excitement for premium video on-demand has grown significantly as users turn to streaming to access the latest movies and TV show releases. We’re thrilled to continue our long-standing partnership with Fandango as we build a future where all TV will be streamed by creating a seamless experience for users to discover and enjoy premium video on-demand releases.”

Fandango's newly combined digital store will offer more than 200,000 new release and catalog movies and TV shows, thousands of which will be available for free AVOD viewing. 

Fandango has operated two transactional services since last year, when it acquired Vudu, a platform with more than 60 million registered users, from Walmart.

Ilove saying new things suck and old things are great. It’s a knee-jerk condition of all parents over the age of 33. At some point, after you’ve experienced more than 3000 infant/toddler/preschooler meltdowns, you develop an inner-Larry David, a cynical voice of reason that sort of mocks things mercilessly. It’s a defense mechanism, and I understand it. So, with that in mind, I’m going to say something I can’t believe I’m saying: That Peacock, the new streaming service from NBC/Universal, is actually not that bad.

Previously, when the news of Peacocktv.com/tv was announced, I encouraged everyone I knew to roll their eyes. This feeling of utter exhaustion when it comes to new streaming subscriptions is fairly universal; a recent headline from The Onion read: “New Streaming Service Still Struggling To Come Up With Name Stupid Enough That Public Becomes Furious When They Hear It.” Let’s face it, when you read that headline you think about Quibi, you become angry that the use of the modifier “Max” in HBO Max is utterly pointless, and you certainly work up some venom about Peacock. The name is annoying and sort of encourages you to think harder about the mascot of NBC (which is a Peacock, remember?) than you ever had before. It’s like if Disney+ named itself “Mouse Ears” or Netflix rebranded as “Red and Black.” Peacock is trying to piss you off, and yet, I gotta admit, it’s not that bad? Here’s why.

Peacock is actually free

Yes, there are subscription tiers to Peacock. But the basic plan is free, and you really, for real, do not have to put in your credit card to sign up. You just have to give them your email address. It’s fairly painless, and honestly, I was shocked that I didn’t have to use the Google auto-fill to put in my bank info. Like, it’s a small step, and who am I kidding, I’ve lost track of what I’m signed up for and what I’m not. But the fact that I didn’t have any buyers remorse is saying something. I’ve seen a few negative reviews of the new shows on Peacock.com/tv where critics are saying stuff like “yeah this show is worth what I paid for, which is nothing!” And honestly, I think those quotes are hilarious. There’s a slick, sexy show with Han Solo and Sybil from Downton Abbey that is legit free? I dunno. I feel like everyone has lost sight of why most people watch TV — to distract us from the crushing terribleness of real life.

Remember when you had to read Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World in English class? Yeah, it’s okay, nobody does. Spoiler alert, the book also isn’t as readable as you might think. But you know what is watchable? The new TV show based on that book. Starring Alden Ehrenreich (your favorite Han Solo) and Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey). This show is far from perfect, but the best way I can describe it is like this: Imagine watching Westworld or Black Mirror, but instead of hating your life afterward, you kind of just feel like having a glass of wine. That’s what the new Brave New World is. It’s a laid back sci-fi cautionary tale with a ton of crazy sex party scenes. These scenes are not really all that great, to be honest, but because everybody has mentioned them, I thought I’d mention it. Yes, there’s a lot of nudity in this show. But, to me, this is like Logan’s Run nudity. It’s just kind of happening. It’s not the focus. I can’t say this show is better than something like Black Mirror, but again, it’s new, and it’s certainly more watchable and well-paced than you might think.

The library of old shows is pretty solid

Look, I’m not crazy about ads on any streaming service, but, when you consider that both Hulu and CBS All Access have ads, the fact there are ads on free Peacock shows feels fairly tame. In terms of old shows, you can binge, Peacock has 30 Rock, Cheers, Parks and Recreation, Frasier, Murder She Wrote, Saved By the Bell, and, I can’t believe I’m saying this…The Munsters.

Is this the most ground-breaking stuff ever? Well, no. But if you want to get a little more serious, I also was able to watch Do the Right Thing for the first time in years, and that was pretty freaking great. So yeah, if I’m just putting in my email address, this feels like a pretty good deal.

It’s tough to say if there will ever be a point where I think getting the paid version of Peacocktv.com/tv is worth it. If and when they get that new version of Battlestar Galactica, then sure, maybe. But right now, if you need a distraction after the kids have gone to bed, this news streaming service might not be so bad after all.

What is PeacockTV?

NBCUniversal launched its new streaming service nationwide this summer. It adds thousands of hours of content and programming for free.

There are also two more tiers for customers willing to fork out extra cash to gain access to additional shows, movies and original content. Some of those original shows include the Friends reunion and the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot. The Premium tier also offers subscribers access to live sports and news.

Peacock.com/tv isn’t made available through a local cable provider. The service is NBCUniversal’s way of reaching cord-cutters for an affordable price.

So how much does it cost?

PeacockTV has three different tiers available; free, Premium and Premium Plus. The free tier, of course, costs nothing. There is a mix of content from the upper two tiers and it has advertising.

The next tier is Peacock Premium, which also has advertising. Subscribers will have full access to Peacock’s library of shows, movies, live sports, daily news and more for $4.99/month. They will also have kids shows and movies, as well as Telemundo’s Spanish-language series available to them.

Finally, subscribers can pay $9.99/month for Peacock Premium Plus. For most of the programming in this tier, there are no advertisements. Some content will have advertising because of streaming rights.

What does Peacock TV include?

Peacock TV promises its subscribers thousands of hours of movies and TV, including channels and content exclusive to the service. Some of Peacock’s original shows include: Brave New World, Cleopatra in Space, Curious George, In Deep with Ryan Lochte, Intelligence and Lost Speedways.

Peacock will also take subscribers down memory lane with reboots of Saved By the Bell, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Punky Brewster.

Not only will subscribers get access to new shows created by the streaming service, they will also be able to binge some of NBC’s most popular television shows. So fans of 30 Rock, Friends and Law Order can rewatch some of their favorite episodes.

There are also a ton of movies available in the service’s library. From Back to the Future, to The Godfather series, there are plenty of choices in between.

Peacock also has live sports and news.

Can I get Peacock TV on my TV, or is it just on phones and computers?

Peacocktv.com/tv can be accessed using a number of devices. Unfortunately, Roku and Amazon TV users won’t be able to watch the streaming service on their devices. But they can use these:

Max is now available as part of a discounted bundle with Disney Plus and Hulu. The bundle can save you as much as $19 a month and you can choose between two different packages.

Subscribers to the bundle get access to all three apps. Activate YouTube on Streaming Devices (Roku)

• Connect your Roku device to your TV and log into Roku. 
• Then, choose the channel Store.
• Navigate to the ad channel section right away. 
• Here, YouTube is simply accessible from the “My channels” list. 
• Further, click the gear icon in the upper left corner of YouTube. 
• Now complete the registration by providing your Google account information. 
• Roko will then create the code and you take note of that code.

If you see unexpected charges from itunes.com/bill, apple.com/bill, or APL*iTunes you should search through your emails for a relevant invoice.

Apple sends an invoice for every card payment they take. Open your email inbox for the address linked to your Apple ID account, then search for “Apple invoice”.

This should turn up any Apple invoices you didn’t already delete.

If you can’t find the right invoice, look through the purchase history directly on your Apple ID account. Remember, Apple may group purchases together, so it might not be immediately obvious what the charges are for.

Also be aware that your purchase history doesn’t show any purchases made by your Family Sharing group, even if the payment came off your card. To see those payments, ask the respective Family Sharing members to sign in.

View your purchase history on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

1. Go to Settings [Your Name] iTunes App Store.
2. Tap your Apple ID account and select View Apple ID.
3. If prompted, enter your Apple ID password to sign in.
4. Scroll down and tap on Purchase History.
5. Select any purchase to Resend the email invoice.

View your purchase history on a computer:

1. Open Apple Music or iTunes on your computer.
2. From the menu bar, select to Accounts View My Account.
3. If prompted, enter your Apple ID password to sign in.
4. Scroll down and click See All in the Purchase History section.
5. Click the Order ID next to a purchase to Resend the email invoice.

When you find the invoice you’re looking for, click the Report a Problem button in it to speak to Apple directly.
